Planting New Trees

One of the best local resources for selecting a tree for planting is our List of Recommended Trees. You can also check out the Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s Landscape Guide, a comprehensive landscaping resource for the Truckee Meadows.

Utah State University Cooperative Extension has an online Utah Tree Browser is an interactive search tool with information on more than 200 native and introduced species growing in the Intermountain West. The site includes color photographs and a fact sheet for each species that describes leaves, twigs, flowers/fruit, bark, wood, and other comments including hardiness zone designations.

The best time to plant new trees is spring or fall, when it’s not too hot, but the ground is not frozen. For quick tips on when to plant, prune, water and fertilize your trees, download the Seasonal Tree Care Guide.

First off, select your tree and determine where to plant it. Next, you are ready to plant!
