Mission, Purpose, Goals

Our Mission is to enhance the protection and preservation of the public and private community forest through:

  1. Education (information and instruction)

    • Foster a broad sense community responsibility for and ownership of the community forest
    • Increase awareness of the value and benefits of trees
    • Promote programs that recognize the benefits of privately-owned trees
    • Invest in effective outreach focused on public education of tree care and tree irrigation practices
    • Provide tree care training opportunities (workshops, seminars, etc.)
  2. Research

    • Continue to invest in, expand, and integrate existing public tree inventories
    • Develop a community forest management plan for the region
    • Monitor research related to the role of trees in climate change
  3. Conservation (water and energy)

    • Highlight the role of trees in water and energy conservation
    • Promote climate-appropriate trees and landscapes
    • Demonstrate Best Landscape Practices through community projects
  4. Collaborative Policy Development

    • Provide a forum for the exchange of technical information
    • Facilitate the development of cooperative community forestry programs
    • Identify opportunities for shared funding sources, resources, materials, and personnel
    • Develop a regional tree ordinance that includes, at a minimum, watering requirements

Goals of the Forestry Coalition

  • Public education and awareness of the value and benefits of our community forest

  • Foster a broad sense of ownership and community responsibility for the community forest, both public and private

Internal Forestry Coalition Objectives

  • Provide a forum for the exchange of technical information

  • Identify opportunities for shared funding sources, resources, materials and personnel
  • Invest in an effective Web site focused on public education of tree care
  • Develop a regional community forest management plan including a regional tree ordinance that addresses watering requirements
