Recommended List of Trees
The Truckee Meadows Community Forestry Coalition cares about the trees that help make Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County a great place to live and work. While our local governments have dedicated staffs to care for our region’s public trees, there are far more private trees that residents are responsible for keeping healthy. We have been losing mature trees from our community forest. Arborists are concerned that tree care needs, especially tree watering requirements, are not understood by many residents.
We hope you’ll join us in our quest to maintain and build our community forest. Our trees – just like our roads, power lines, and other infrastructure – provide many benefits to our quality of life. The purpose of the Community Forestry Coalition is to bring together residents, local agencies and organizations to aid the community in preserving our region’s trees.
Our website is dedicated to helping residents of the Truckee Meadows understand
- The value and benefits of trees
- How to care for existing trees
- Selecting and planting new trees
- Understanding local rules that apply to trees
Throughout the tree care sections at this site you will find links to additional resources including those published by the Arbor Day Foundation, at the Trees Are Good website maintained by the International Society of Arboriculture, and the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban & Community Forestry. These are excellent resources on a number of tree topics. ISA publications are also available in Spanish.
We all have our part to play in keeping our community forest green and healthy.
